Flamenco in a Triana theatre
An hour of live singing, dance and guitar in a theatre on Calle Pureza. No eating or drinking in the room, and no children under 6.
Seville · Triana
One hour of guitar, song and dance on a theatre stage on Calle Pureza, in the heart of Triana.
Dancer, singer and guitarist share a small stage in a room whose walls carry the tiles of the old confectionery it replaced.
Four facts about the theatre
The hour, start to finish
The ticket buys the performance and nothing around it. With no interval, the hour runs straight through.
The start time is on your confirmation. The room allows no eating or drinking, so eat before or after. If a wheelchair user is in your group, email the theatre beforehand.
Dancers, singers and a guitarist perform without a break. Silence is requested, photography and video are not allowed, and guests are asked not to leave unless they must. The theatre says its artists interpret freely, so no two shows run the same.
The theatre's site describes two terraces, one over Calle Pureza and a larger one facing the tower of the Church of Santa Ana, as places to pause before or after the show. The street outside is Triana's main one.

Listen for
Flamenco is sorted into forms called palos. These six come up in accounts of Triana and of flamenco as UNESCO describes it. Treat them as things to listen for, not as a running order.
Wikipedia describes the soleá as one of the basic forms, with a twelve-beat cycle and a solemn tone. One account on the same site holds that songs from Ronda reached Triana, with its tradition of corridos, and became the soleá there.
Wikipedia, citing the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco, says tangos have local styles, and ties the Triana one to Pastora Pavón, La Niña de los Peines and El Titi. Tangos linked to El Titi are often sung in minor tonalities.
A deep, expressive form. Wikipedia notes that in Cádiz the siguiriya is simple and lacks ornament, while the Triana style of Frasco el Colorao is very ornate.
Wikipedia says the jaleos arose in Triana from the festive singing of corridos and soleares, and that in Jerez and Utrera they led to a further form that spread across lower Andalusia.
UNESCO lists hand-clapping and foot-stamping among the sounds that join song, dance and guitar in flamenco. In a small theatre they carry well.
UNESCO names these three as the parts of flamenco. The theatre's cast is built from all three: singers, dancers and a guitarist.
The artists choose the programme and the cast rotates, so turn up for the hour and trust them with the order.

Three flamenco evenings
| Format | What the booking page shows | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| A theatre show | This ticket: one hour of live flamenco in a theatre on Calle Pureza, with no food or drink in the room. | Anyone who wants to watch closely and in silence |
| A tablao with an introduction | The second card: a short audio introduction to the styles, then an hour of guitar, singing, dance and percussion. | First-timers who want some context |
| A show with dinner | The third card: about 90 minutes in a café-cantante setting, with a cocktail, a tapa or a dinner depending on the ticket. | An evening out, not only a show |
Where to book
The first card is the Triana theatre show covered here. The next two are other sorts of flamenco night in Seville: a small tablao that begins with a short introduction, and a show served with dinner.
An hour of live singing, dance and guitar in a theatre on Calle Pureza. No eating or drinking in the room, and no children under 6.
An hour of guitar, singing, dance and percussion in a small venue in Seville's Arenal district, with a short audio introduction to the styles before the show.
About an hour and a half in a venue in the old centre, set up like a café cantante. Choose a show with a cocktail, or add a tapa or a dinner.

Practical notes
The theatre's address is Calle Pureza 76, 41010 Seville, on the Triana side of the Guadalquivir. A map app will find it from that.
The theatre's site lists taxi ranks at Plaza de Cuba and Plaza del Altozano, a metro stop at Plaza de Cuba and public car parks at Plaza de Cuba and by the Triana market. The site also lists city bus stops nearby.
Your confirmation gives the start time, which varies from date to date. The theatre suggests booking a day or two ahead at the least, and says weekends and high season often sell out earlier.
Neither eating nor drinking is permitted in the room, and the ticket includes neither. Dinner goes before or after; Calle Betis, along the river, is the neighbourhood's restaurant street.
The GetYourGuide ticket is wheelchair accessible. For wheelchair seating, write to info-reservas@teatroflamencotriana.com with your date, as the booking page requests.
